1. Sign in to your staff account
On a computer
- Open Chrome, Edge, Safari or another browser.
- Go to takimu.co.ke.
- Select Sign in in the top-right area of the website.
- Enter the email address your school registered for you.
- Enter your password.
- Select the green Sign in button.
- Your school Overview page opens.
On a phone
- Open your phone browser and go to takimu.co.ke.
- Tap Sign in.
- Enter your email address and password, then tap Sign in.
- Use the bottom navigation to move between the main sections available to you.
- Tap Tools near the top-right when you need additional options such as My account.
If your password does not work: check Caps Lock, re-enter the email carefully and ask the school owner or principal to reset your password if necessary. Do not create another school account.
2. Find the work assigned to you
Takimu deliberately limits teachers to the classes and subjects assigned by school leadership.
- Overview shows information relevant to your role.
- Attendance appears for teachers who are allowed to take attendance. A class teacher sees the class assigned to them.
- Academics contains assessments, mark entry and reports you are allowed to work with.
- Tools contains My account and other shortcuts available to your role.
If you cannot see a class or subject that you teach, ask school leadership to check the class-teacher or subject assignment. A missing assignment is usually the cause.
3. Take daily attendance
Who can do this: school leadership can work with all classes. A class teacher can take attendance for the class assigned to them.
Open the attendance register
- Select Attendance. On a phone, use the Attendance item in the bottom navigation.
- The Daily attendance page opens.
- Select Take attendance.
- If Takimu shows more than one class, select the class you want to mark.
- Check the class name and date shown at the top before changing any learner status.
Mark the learners
- Takimu lists the active learners in the class.
- Every unmarked learner is set to Present by default, so you only need to change learners whose status is different.
- For an absent learner, open the status dropdown beside the learner and select Absent.
- Use Late, Sick or Excused where appropriate.
- Review the list again before saving.
- Select Save attendance.
- Takimu returns to the attendance page and displays Attendance saved successfully.
Correct today's attendance
- Return to Attendance.
- Find the class.
- Select Edit.
- Change the learner's status.
- Select Save attendance again.
If no class appears: your account may not be assigned as the class teacher. Ask an owner, principal or deputy principal to check Classes & streams.
4. Create an assessment
Only classes and subjects assigned to you are shown. School leadership may see all configured classes and subjects.
- Open Academics.
- Select + New assessment.
- In Assessment name, type a clear name such as Mid Term Examination or CAT 2.
- Select the Assessment type, for example Exam, CAT, Quiz, Project, Assignment, Practical or CBE assessment.
- Select the correct Subject.
- Select the correct Class.
- Check the assessment date.
- Confirm the academic year and term.
- Select the Scoring mode: Numeric score, CBE level only, or Numeric + CBE level.
- If you are using numeric marks, check the Maximum score. For example, use 100 for an assessment marked out of 100.
- Leave the status as Open for mark entry if you want to begin entering marks immediately. Choose Draft if the assessment should not yet be used for mark entry.
- Select Create & enter marks.
If the subject or class is not listed: stop and ask school leadership to check your subject-to-class assignment. Creating a duplicate subject or asking for a different role is not the correct fix.
5. Enter and review learner results
After you create or open an assessment, Takimu shows the learners who belong to the selected class.
- Confirm the assessment name, subject, class, year and term before entering marks.
- Work down the learner list one learner at a time.
- For a numeric assessment, enter the learner's score using the same maximum score set on the assessment.
- For a CBE assessment, select the competency or performance level required by the assessment.
- For a combined assessment, enter the numeric score and the CBE level where required.
- If the learner did not sit the assessment, use the assessment's absence option rather than entering a false score.
- Review the marks before saving or completing the assessment.
- Return later and correct a result while the assessment is still available for editing.
Good practice: enter marks during the term rather than waiting until the last week. The report card is built from the academic information already stored in Takimu.
6. Review reports and add comments where your role allows it
- Open Academics.
- Open Report cards. On a phone, you can also open Tools and select Report cards.
- Find the learner in the list.
- Select View report.
- Check that the learner name, class, subject results and attendance information are correct.
- If you are the assigned class teacher and a class-teacher comment field is available, enter the comment carefully.
- School leadership handles leadership comments and final report review according to their permissions.
If a report is missing marks, go back to the relevant assessment and confirm that the correct class, subject, term and learner result were used.
7. If something is missing or you cannot continue
I cannot see my class in Attendance
Ask school leadership to open Classes & streams and confirm that you are assigned as the class teacher for the correct class.
I cannot see my subject or class when creating an assessment
Ask leadership to open the subject setup and confirm that the exact subject and class are assigned to your staff account.
A learner is missing from my class
Ask school leadership to open the learner record and confirm that the learner is Active and assigned to the correct class.
I entered marks under the wrong assessment
Stop entering more marks and tell the school administrator which assessment was used. Do not create duplicate learners to work around the mistake.
I cannot sign in
Ask the school owner or principal to confirm your account is Active and use Reset staff password if necessary.
