1. Before you try to sign in
Your child's school must first link you as a guardian and enable Parent Portal access. The school should give you:
- the email address registered for your parent account, and
- the temporary or current password for that account.
2. Sign in to the Parent Portal
On a phone
- Open Chrome, Safari or your preferred browser.
- Go to takimu.co.ke.
- Open the Parent Portal. If you already have the parent sign-in link from the school, open that link directly.
- Tap the Email address box and enter the email address registered by the school.
- Tap the Password box and enter your password.
- Tap Sign in.
- If the details are correct, the Parent Portal opens and shows your linked child or children.
On a computer
- Open your browser and go to the Takimu Parent Portal sign-in page.
- Enter your registered email address.
- Enter your password.
- Select Sign in.
If Takimu says “Incorrect email or password”: type both details again carefully. Passwords are case-sensitive. If the problem continues, contact the school office so they can confirm the email linked to your guardian record and reset the password if necessary.
3. Understand the Parent Portal screen
The Parent Portal is separate from the staff dashboard. It only shows information connected to the children linked to your guardian account.
On a phone
Use the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen. It contains:
- Results for academic performance,
- Attendance for school presence,
- Report card for term reports, and
- Notices for school announcements.
On a computer
The same sections appear near the top of the Parent Portal. Select the section you want to open.
Your name appears in the account area. Open it when you need Profile & security or when you want to Log out.
4. Switch between children linked to your account
If the same guardian account is linked to more than one child, Takimu allows you to move between them without signing out.
- Sign in to the Parent Portal.
- Look for the child selector or the list of linked children.
- Select the name of the child you want to view.
- Takimu opens that child's information.
- Use Results, Attendance or Report card normally for the selected child.
If one of your children is missing: do not create another parent account. Contact the school and ask them to link the missing learner to your existing guardian record using the same verified contact details.
5. View your child's results
- Select Results.
- Confirm that the correct child is selected.
- Review the academic year and term shown on the page.
- Read the subject or learning-area results that the school has recorded and made available.
- If class or performance context is shown, use it together with the individual subject result rather than treating one figure as the whole report.
If a subject result is missing: the school may not have completed or published that assessment yet. Contact the school if you believe the record should already be available.
6. Check attendance
- Select Attendance.
- Confirm the correct child is selected.
- Review the attendance information recorded by the school.
- Use the attendance summary together with the school's communication if you have questions about a particular absence or status.
The Parent Portal displays attendance recorded by the school. Parents cannot edit attendance themselves.
7. Open and download a report card
- Select Report card.
- Confirm the correct child is selected.
- Choose the available academic year and term if more than one report is listed.
- Open the report card.
- Review the learner details, subject results, attendance summary and teacher or principal comments.
- Use the report download option provided on the report page to save the report card to your phone or computer.
If there is no report card: the school may not have completed the report for that term yet. A missing report is not fixed by creating another parent account.
8. Read school notices
- Select Notices in the Parent Portal navigation.
- Read the notices published by the school.
- Use school contact channels if a notice asks parents to respond or take action.
Schools may also send short SMS alerts when SMS has been enabled, but the Parent Portal remains the place for detailed academic information.
9. Open your profile, change your password or sign out
- Open the account menu showing your name or profile initials.
- Select Profile & security.
- Review the account information shown there.
- Use the password-change section when you want to replace your current password.
- When using a shared phone or computer, return to the account menu and select Log out when finished.
10. Common Parent Portal problems
I cannot sign in
Make sure you are on the Parent Portal login, not the staff login. Re-enter the email and password carefully. If it still fails, ask the school to verify that portal access is enabled and reset your password if needed.
My child is missing
Ask the school to check the guardian link on the learner record. If you already have another child visible, ask them to link the missing child to the same guardian account.
A result looks wrong
Parents cannot edit academic records. Contact the school and mention the learner, subject, term and result you are questioning.
A report card is not available
The report may not have been completed for that term. Ask the school whether report cards have been released.
I changed phones
You do not need a new account. Open the Parent Portal on the new phone and sign in with the same registered email and password.
